Today was our last morning at Freedom. We were able to be with the preschoolers to start their day! They had a lot of energy! We did tutoring and then said goodbye to all of our new friends!! Such a great time! None of us wanted to leave! We are now at the airport waiting for our flight home!!
Today we helped get the breakfast out for the kids before they arrived. Then we had a full day of tutoring the kids!! We finished the evening with our nightly bible teaching and now the girls are all packing up their things. (Although no one wants to come home!!) We’ve had a great week serving here in the Dominican! Tomorrow is our last morning with the kids!!
Every morning after the kids finish breakfast they pray together and sing the National Anthem. It’s SO COOL! Today was another full day of tutoring for us. Each day we’ve had new kids as we rotate through all the English classes. We just finished the evening with our nightly bible teaching.
Today we tutored kids in the morning and afternoon. We had 13 different groups of kids for 25 minutes each. Lots of one on one english time! So many special moments with the kids today! At 4:00 the girls and some of the missionaries and their kids played soccer in the big field out behind the playground. We had a cookout for dinner and met some of the other missionaries who work behind the scenes everyday. It takes a lot of people here to run the school.
Today has been an amazing day. We started our job, tutoring the kids, 1 on 1 in English. We used flash cards, read books and played Uno. It was really great to hear the older students speak English with us!! We all loved this time!! This afternoon, we went out to the sugar cane village called Batey Lima. We were able to see where Freedom started preschool in the tiny metal church building. We also met some children and walked with them around the batey. Tonight we finished with our nightly devotions. We are all tired and ready for bed!!
We are looking forward to the kids arriving tomorrow for school!!!
We had a very long day traveling, but are so excited to be here! We had dinner and got the basic information we needed for the night. We are ready for bed!! Pray for God to use us in a mighty way this week! We love you!
Well, to say the least, our trip home didn’t exactly go as planned. We ended up having to drive 10 hours home from Philadelphia Saturday night.
But, no matter what happened on the way back home from the Dominican Republic this internship will always have a major impact on my life. The other interns and the kiddos will never know the true impact that they had on my life. When going on mission trips, you always think to yourself “I’m going here to change these kids lives,” but I can honestly say these kids changed my life more then I changed their, and for that I am forever grateful.
Cheers to week 3 and the start of week 4. This place is going to be extremely hard to leave. These memories have been unforgettable. The tears with definitely be flowing Friday and Saturday as our goodbyes begin.
